Villa Plays Catan

Dear colleagues and families,

You are ALL invited to participate in the first Villa Plays Catan event on 3/5/21 at 6pm. This is an online event playing the world famous strategy-based board game, Catan. 

About Catan: Players take on the roles of settlers, each attempting to build and develop holdings while trading and acquiring resources. Players gain points as their settlements grow; the first to reach 10 points, wins. Catan became one of the first German-style board games to achieve popularity outside Europe. As of 2020, more than 32 million copies in 30 languages have been sold.

We will be playing on colonist.io. It is free to use and no membership is required. I recommend playing a couple of games on this site beforehand so you get used to the interface. It is also highly recommended you use a laptop or desktop (with an adblocker) since touch screen devices are a little awkward to use on this site.

N.B. This is a public website and therefore anyone and everyone can access it. Whilst this board game has a recommended age of 10+, an online version always poses risks as there is a chat function. We will be playing on private tables (i.e. only with Villa community members) which will be safe on the evening but we want to be mindful of introducing sites with public chat functions to children. Therefore, please only register your child if you are comfortable with them accessing this site. We recommend an age of 12+ with a sound knowledge and grasp of what it means to be a good digital citizen.

Further details regarding game settings, a zoom link and tables will be released closer to the date once we know how many people will be playing.
