Lower School: Upcoming School Conferences
Dear kindergarten through fifth grade parents,
As the wet and windy weather sets in this week, please remember to send your students with warm, waterproof shoes and clothing to wear
outdoors during both recess and outdoor lunch.
As you can see on the Villa school calendar, lower school families will soon have an opportunity to participate in fall conferences. All conferences will be held virtually over Zoom. For our lower school students, conferences are scheduled Wednesday through Friday, October 20-22. There is no school for students on conference days. Extended Day will be available (contingent on minimum enrollment) and a link from Ms. Hodgson will be sent later this week.
Villa uses Sign Up Genius in order to schedule lower school conferences with teachers. The system is set up with tabs for each grade level as well as one for specialists. Each grade level tab will show the teachers and their remaining available conference times. When a time slot has been selected by a family, it will show up as “not available.”
Kindergarten through second grade families will hold a conference solely with their child’s homeroom teacher. Families in grades three through five will hold a conference that includes both their student and their child’s teacher. Your student will work closely with their teacher to prepare to lead the conference. These conversations are important opportunities for you and your student to discuss their progress and to hear about any goals or parent support that they might need. When scheduling, please make sure that your third through fifth grade student is available to attend their conference and does not have another conflict such as a sports practice or other commitment.
Lower school families can also choose to schedule a conference with one or more of your child’s specialist teachers. This is a good opportunity to meet with our music teacher (Ms. Gaebler), our band teacher (Mr. Draper), our Spanish teacher (Senora Richwine), our technology teacher (Ms. Salyer), or our art teacher (Ms. Makatura). Ms. Scott’s second through fifth grade math students may also use Sign Up Genius to schedule a math conference. These conferences are shorter in length given the nature of the more specific content. Please note that at the time of fall conferences, Ms. Scott will have had but a brief, two-week period working with your students.
You will soon receive the link to access our fall conference Signup Genius. That link will go live on Friday, October 1st at 6:00
p.m. and will close at noon on October 15th.
With gratitude for your partnership,
Michelle Sullivan, Interim Lower School Director
